Vodafone Village

A “Nox-Activ” roof for the new Eco-technological
complex of the Milan offices of Vodafone Italy.
Vodafone Village has a "photovoltaic garden" where, by integrating the panels with the architectural style of the complex, solar energy is used for auxiliary power generation. 27.000 sqm of glass surfaces brightens the office with full daylight and with specific characteristics of energy efficiency that can reduce the energy requirements for air conditioning in summer. Finally, the use of opaque surfaces of materials with photocatalytic cement and waterproofing membranes break down organic and inorganic pollutants in the air.
The ambitious project, launched in June 2008 and inaugurated in June 2012, involves the construction of four buildings: three towers as office space and a fourth dedicated to collectivity space, for a total area of approximately 67.000 sqm. 
In context of eco-technological aspect of the complex, Imperedil, which was responsible for designing all waterproofing details, chose Siplast Icopal, for the membranes NOx-Activ® to be applied on a surface of about 3.000 sqm.
In fact the NOx-Activ® membrane is certified HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale) for cycle n.1 on the "Theme Eco-construction", for cycle n. 2 on the "Theme Eco-construction: choice integrated products, systems and construction processes "and cycle n.13 of the "theme of health and air quality" and suits environmental sustainability projects in compliance with the principles of Sustainable Development.
The introduction of TiO2 (titanium dioxide) in the composition of the coating materials for construction, gives them self-cleaning and depolluting properties through photocatalysis that turns harmful nitrous oxides into benign nitrates. This action is permanent and uses solar energy, transmitted by radiation (UV), enabling the decomposition of Nitrogen Oxide Nox particles into harmless nitrates, which are then washed away by rainwater.
