Cerro Negro gold mine in Argentina

Siplast Teranap TP geomembranes chosen to protect the site of Cerro Negro gold mine in Argentina

Canadian gold producer Goldcorp, which is one of the world's largest mining companies, operates the Cerro Negro mining site in Argentina through its subsidiary Oroplata with the approval of Argentine government.
This quarry of more than 215 square kilometers is located in Patagonia, in southern Argentina.

Siplast took part in this project in collaboration with Golder engineering as project manager. The large width geomembranes Teranap TP 531 and 431 were chosen to protect the soil and groundwater surroundings of a-600,000 square meter basin.

Heap leaching areas are used in the mining process to extract precious metals from the ore. A diluted cyanide solution is used in order to extract gold. This solution is collected and guided to the basin. This recovery process requires a perfect waterproofing system in order to avoid widespread  soil contamination. The bituminous geomembranes Teranap TP 531 and 431 have met the most rigorous requirements of the project.
